Main Gallery exhibit, Intimacy, invited artists to create work that encapsulates the uniqueness and universality of intimacy – taking something inherently personal and internal - and exploring how it can be shared with the greater world.

"Intimacy" is a term that encompasses a complex range of relationships and emotions.

We have intimate relationships with children, spouses, friends, and lovers. Many of us feel a keen sense of intimacy with ourselves, with an animal, or with a place that holds special significance. A sense of intimacy can be inspired by music, by a work of art, or by nature. Although intimacy is universal, it is also a highly individual experience that is – by nature–private and secret. Intimacy can describe a sense of personal space, or of nakedness and unmasking, with layers removed. And although it can feel intense or even tangible, the essence of intimacy – like with many emotions – can be hard to capture.

Work from Aaron Wilder's Neither Sand nor Rock is included in the exhibition. Neither Sand nor Rock is a series of sequential photography collages that are neither linear nor cyclical, but represent a meditation on the psychological, imaginative, and physical gaps between childhood and adulthood. Each piece mixes collages of toy building blocks at various stages of completeness or incompleteness as either Mommy's house or Daddy's house. The psyches and personalities of children are built upon the foundations of the priorities and insecurities of their parents. These priorities and insecurities are a tangled web of subjective feelings and reactions of notions of identity vis-à-vis religion, socio-economic status, gender, and countless other forces. Neither Sand nor Rock is a series focusing on the construction and deconstruction of personhood and the expectations of intersecting (and at times clashing) belief systems.

Work from Social Boundaries is also included in the exhibition. Social Boundaries is an ongoing photography project investigating physical barriers, such as bars on doors and windows. Taken on walks along neighborhood boundaries, these photographs are portraits of physical obstructions on what were designed as portals. While walking, Wilder reflects upon the stimuli of these metal bars. These structures are more than perceived visually. They directly disrupt passage and also represent interpersonal and intrapersonal blockages. These kinds of structures impact the movement of many people daily, some subtly, some profoundly. Each individual image is a portrait of a state of mind in the artist and in the viewer.
