From January 30 to February 23, 2018 Bruce Nauman’s Corridor Installation with Mirror - San José Installation (Double Wedge Corridor with Mirror) was on view in the gallery where it was first built and installed at San José State College in May 1970. Today this gallery, now called the Natalie and James Thompson Art Gallery, is much as it was when Nauman installed his V-shaped corridor in its far corner, and viewers had the unique opportunity to experience this artwork as the artist first conceived it.
This exhibition, dubbed "Time Tunnel," was curated by Dore Bowen, Keith Daly, Constance Lewallen and Tony May. A virtual reality corridor was also installed in the adjacent gallery Theta Belcher Gallery and provided a contemporary rendering of the corridor in the language of digital media.
Created as a record of this exhibition celebrating, re-creating, and re-interpreting this work by Bruce Nauman in the same gallery space it was first exhibited in 1970, this catalog is a way to continue to share this historic occasion with a broader audience that can enjoy it for many years to come!
Only 100 copies of this book were printed. As such, it is a rare treasure commemorating this undertaking. Aaron Wilder served as managing editor of this book published by the Natalie and James Thompson Art Gallery and it is available for purchase online from San José State University for $81.93.
